Who we are:The Fresno State Salseros Dance Team is an arts performance troupe with spectacular and inspiring performances. The team is being recognized around the community, performing in various events-César Chavez, the Raiders Road Show, and Starline Salsa Club Concerts, Vintage Days and the Central Valley Dance Conference.
The Fresno State Salseros dance Team hopes to grow and work on projects to spread the love of salsa music and dance. The Fresno State Salseros a whole new dance troupe filled with culture diversity and unity through salsa.
The Founders:In January of 2003, Alicia Estrada was invited to go salsa dancing in Los Angeles. The talent and style of salsa dancing Alicia saw at Steven’s Steakhouse(one of LA’s popular salsa clubs) impressed Alicia to consider starting a Salsa club at California State University, Fresno. Encouraged by her close friends and classmates, Alicia put her thoughts into action and on April 7th of Spring semester 2003 she held the first Salsa club meeting.
Starting with only 16 members and growing to 63 members by the Fall semester 2003, Alicia has managed to attract and enlist a large following made up of CSUF students, as well as non-students. Finding dedicated students to help develop and hold roles for the club was wasn’t easy. Meng Song became the first person to volunteer his time to help Alicia with running the club. It wasn’t until Spring 2004 when the Fresno State Salsa Club had its full set of new, aspiring salsa dancers become officers.
